A LITTLE ABOUT ME

HELLO AND WELCOME!

If you’re looking for someone to craft a truly unique, uplifting, all-round cracker of a celebration then you’ve come to the right place!

I’m Claire, an independent celebrant who specialises in crafting bespoke ceremonies. I firmly believe that life is worth celebrating, whether it be a wedding, civil partnership,  renewing your vows, welcoming someone into your family or any other occasion that you want to mark!

You may know exactly what you want for your milestone moment or you might like some help to figure it out. Either way, you’ll be in safe hands.

As an independent celebrant, I am not bound by state or religious stipulations (FAQs) – want to tie the knot in a submarine? No problem. Have you always wanted your baby naming to incorporate interpretive dance? We can make that happen.

This freedom means that together, we can craft a ceremony that is entirely personal to you. Taking your ideas and preferences and translating them into a celebration that will give you all the feels.

I am based in Brighton & Hove and work with individuals, couples and families across East Sussex, West Sussex, London, Surrey, Hampshire, the Isle of Wight (one of my all-time favourite places) and beyond.

Choosing the right celebrant - that fits you and your style - is of course a vital ingredient in your special celebration. If you like what you see and hear then please do get in touch and we can take it from there! Any excuse for some tea and cake or even a cheeky Skype session if geography proves pesky  - let's see if we are a match!

I'm really looking forward to hearing from you,

Claire XO

LET'S CELEBRATE YOUR LOVE STORY!

Life is all about sliding door moments isn't it? I'm sure you remember the first time you met your special someone. The clink of drinks at a wedding as your eyes connected across the dance floor or that blind date that actually came up with the goods. The moment when you realised that the person in front of you was the person that you want travel through life with, sharing in all the grit and the gloss.

I'm here to take the patchwork of these moments, your hopes and dreams and to translate them into a ceremony that will celebrate how far you've come and how far you'll go - together.

YOUR love story, told your way

Working with me you'll have absolute directive control over your day. We won't be constrained by anyone else’s dos and don'ts, shoulds or coulds. Instead the celebration that we craft together will tell your love story, your way. We will find just the right songs, which send a tingle down your spine; readings which are truly meaningful to you; and vows which put your heart to paper.

SOUND GOOD TO YOU?

Fantastic, let's get started! You'll find some more information here about my services as well as some of the questions that I'm most often asked. I'd love to hear from you, so please do get in touch.

RENEWAL OF VOWS

ANOTHER CHANCE TO CELEBRATE!

You can quick fire list all of your partner's irritating habits, personality quirks and even their favourite chinese takeaway. And years after you first said 'YES', you can't wait to do it again.

Or as with many of us, life hasn't neccessarily been straightforward and you want to create a moment to reaffirm your love and commitment to that special person in your life. Whatever the reason, I'm here to help.

UNIQUE RITUALS

Working with me you'll have absolute directive control over your day. We won't be constrained by anyone else’s dos and don'ts, shoulds or coulds.

NAMING & ADOPTION CEREMONIES

WELCOME TO THE FAMILY!

Life is all about connection isn't it? And family, well family's where it begins. A naming or adoption ceremony brings together friends and family - who may or may not know each other so well - around their singular love for the special someone that you are welcoming into your family. It cements the 'team' which is going to surround your family member in love as they journey on life's helter-skelter.

YOUR DAY YOUR WAY

Working with me you'll have absolute directive control over your day. I'm here to take your vision and translate it into a day that will not only leave you with beautiful memories, but something that you can pass on to your loved one as a tangible reminder that you and all your friends and family LOVE THEM. Poems, songs, videos, dance, team building exercises - anything goes!

SOUND GOOD TO YOU?

Fantastic, let's get started! You'll find some more information here about my services as well as some of the questions that I'm most often asked. I'd love to hear from you, so please do get in touch.

MARKING LIFE'S MOMENTS

The grit and the gloss, life is worth celebrating! Whether it be respectfully marking the end of a relationship, moving house or welcoming a new pet into the family, there is no small moment too  big or too small.

YOUR STORY, YOUR WAY

Celebration is a kind of food we all need in our lives, and each individual brings a special recipe or offering, so that together we will make a great feast. Celebration is a human need that we must not, and can not, deny.

FAQ

WHAT IS AN INDEPENDENT CELEBRANT?

In my role as a celebrant I craft personality-packed ceremonies that celebrate you and your life. Whether it be a birth, adoption, marriage or reaffirmation of love, I am here to help you mark each of life’s milestones. For many of these occassions the only legal requirement is to sign some paperwork – a marriage licence or birth certificate, for example. But it isn’t the paperwork that makes these events so special is it? It’s the ceremony. The coming together of friends and family to share in your exchange of words, love and hopes for the future.

As an independent celebrant, I will work with you to create a ceremony that is exactly as you want it to be. There is no ‘rule’ book, no prescription over where, when or how you should celebrate. Unlike with a registrar wedding for example, you won’t be limited by a pre-defined list of options that you must stick to and you can work with me throughout the process. As an independent celebrant I am not affiliated with a particular religion so I can craft a ceremony that is directed solely by you and your preferences, whatever they may be.

Are you a qualified celebrant?

I was trained by the UK branch of the Fellowship of Professional Celebrants and am a member of the organisation. They are a recognised official body for celebrants in the UK and around the world. If you have any further questions about all things celebrancy I’d love to hear from you. Just drop me a line here.

IS THE CEREMONY LEGALLY BINDING?

Currently ceremonies conducted by celebrants in the UK are not legally binding (although this may be changing!). To arrange the legal paperwork, you will need to register with your local council and follow the necessary processes. It is sometimes thought that the ‘legal bit’ and the ceremony need to happen together, but this isn’t the case. Take your birthday for example, do you feel obliged to celebrate on the day your birth was registered at the council? No? Phew! By separating the legality from the occasion itself you have the freedom to mark your special moment in whatever way you choose.

WHAT DOES A 'NORMAL' CEREMONY INVOLVE?

No two ceremonies are the same, that's the beauty of working with a celebrant!

DO WE HAVE TO WRITE OUR OWN VOWS?

This is a personal decision, but rest assured if you are worried about writing your vows I am here to help. Whether it be adapting the traditional vows or working together to put your heart into words, I will be ready and waiting to assist (or even take the reigns if you'd prefer!).

WHAT DOES my FEE eXCLUDE?

Simply travel expenses for any meetings or events outside of Brighton and Hove! Any meet ups will be charged at 0.45p per mile. Oh, and a PA system – this is typically only needed if you have more than 80 guests. Often your chosen venue or band/DJ will be able to supply one but if not, not to worry. I can help you to book this too.

DO YOU HAVE INSURANCE?

Yes I have Public Liability insurance and Professional Indemnity insurance through my association with the Fellowship of Professional Celebrants.

WHAT ARE YOUR TERMS AND CONDITIONS?

You should find all the information you need here, but if not give me a shout!

HOW SOON SHOULD I GET IN TOUCH?

Now! Whether it's to ask me some questions, arrange an introductory cuppa/skype date or to book my services I'm looking forward to hearing from you.

I'M SOLD! HOW DO I BOOK YOUR SERVICES?

Please just fill out the contact form and I will come back to you within 48 hours with our next steps. Once you decide to work with me I will ask for a 'save the date' fee to secure your spot. This will be deducted from my overall fee.

Life is short, wear your party pants.

If you wish to find out more about how the processing for the new purpose is compatible with the original purpose, please email us at Claire@craftedcelebrations.co.uk

If we need to use your personal data for a purpose unrelated to the purpose for which we collected the data, we will notify you and we will explain the legal ground of processing.

We may process your personal data without your knowledge or consent where this is required or permitted by law.

8.  DISCLOSURES OF YOUR PERSONAL DATA

We may have to share your personal data with the parties set out below for the purposes set out in the table in the previous section five:

•       Service providers who provide IT and system administration services.

•       Professional advisers including lawyers, bankers, auditors and insurers who provide consultancy, banking, legal, insurance and accounting services.

•       HM Revenue & Customs, regulators and other authorities based in the United Kingdom and other relevant jurisdictions who require reporting of processing activities in certain circumstances.

•       Third parties to whom we sell, transfer, or merge parts of our business or our assets.

We require all third parties to whom we transfer your data to respect the security of your personal data and to treat it in accordance with the law. We only allow such third parties to process your personal data for specified purposes and in accordance with our instructions.

9.  INTERNATIONAL TRANSFERS

Countries outside of the European Economic Area (EEA) do not always offer the same levels of protection to your personal data, so European law has prohibited transfers of personal data outside of the EEA unless the transfer meets certain criteria.

Many of our third parties service providers are based outside the European Economic Area (EEA) so their processing of your personal data will involve a transfer of data outside the EEA.

Whenever we transfer your personal data out of the EEA, we do our best to ensure a similar degree of security of data by ensuring at least one of the following safeguards is implemented:

•       We will only transfer your personal data to countries that have been deemed to provide an adequate level of protection for personal data by the European Commission; or

•       Where we use certain service providers, we may use specific contracts or codes of conduct or certification mechanisms approved by the European Commission which give personal data the same protection it has in Europe; or

•       Where we use providers based in the United States, we may transfer data to them if they are part of the EU-US Privacy Shield which requires them to provide similar protection to personal data shared between the Europe and the US.

If none of the above safeguards is available, we may request your explicit consent to the specific transfer. You will have the right to withdraw this consent at any time.

Please email us at Claire@craftedcelebrations.co.uk if you want further information on the specific mechanism used by us when transferring your personal data out of the EEA.

10.  DATA SECURITY

We have put in place appropriate security measures to prevent your personal data from being accidentally lost, used or accessed in an unauthorised way, altered or disclosed. In addition, we limit access to your personal data to those employees, agents, contractors and other third parties who have a business need to know such data. They will only process your personal data on our instructions and they are subject to a duty of confidentiality.

We have put in place procedures to deal with any suspected personal data breach and will notify you and any applicable regulator of a breach where we are legally required to do so.

11.  DATA RETENTION

We will only retain your personal data for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes we collected it for, including for the purposes of satisfying any legal, accounting, or reporting requirements.

To determine the appropriate retention period for personal data, we consider the amount, nature, and sensitivity of the personal data, the potential risk of harm from unauthorised use or disclosure of your personal data, the purposes for which we process your personal data and whether we can achieve those purposes through other means, and the applicable legal requirements.

By law we have to keep basic information about our customers (including Contact, Identity, Financial and Transaction Data) for six years after they cease being customers for tax purposes.

In some circumstances you can ask us to delete your data: see below for further information.

In some circumstances we may anonymise your personal data (so that it can no longer be associated with you) for research or statistical purposes in which case we may use this information indefinitely without further notice to you.

12.  YOUR LEGAL RIGHTS

Under certain circumstances, you have rights under data protection laws in relation to your personal data. These include the right to:

•       Request access to your personal data.

•       Request correction of your personal data.

•       Request erasure of your personal data.

•       Object to processing of your personal data.

•       Request restriction of processing your personal data.

•       Request transfer of your personal data.

•       Right to withdraw consent.

You can see more about these rights at: https://ico.org.uk/for-organisations/guide-to-the-general-data-protection-regulation-gdpr/individual-rights/

If you wish to exercise any of the rights set out above, please email us at Claire@craftedcelebrations.co.uk

You will not have to pay a fee to access your personal data (or to exercise any of the other rights). However, we may charge a reasonable fee if your request is clearly unfounded, repetitive or excessive. Alternatively, we may refuse to comply with your request in these circumstances.

We may need to request specific information from you to help us confirm your identity and ensure your right to access your personal data (or to exercise any of your other rights). This is a security measure to ensure that personal data is not disclosed to any person who has no right to receive it. We may also contact you to ask you for further information in relation to your request to speed up our response.

We try to respond to all legitimate requests within one month. Occasionally it may take us longer than a month if your request is particularly complex or you have made a number of requests. In this case, we will notify you and keep you updated.
